Where are game worlds up to as learning spaces?
Second Life is hyped as the next big thing – where virtual people make virtual “stuff” – buildings, clothes, skins, movies, and sell it in a virtual market. Governments, universities, Special interest Groups, even Telstra has bought real estate (virtual-estate!!) for multitudes of purposes, including learning, communication and commerce. There is even a virtual terrorist cell unhappy about the lack of democracy in their world, the Second Life Liberation Army.
Take part in a mini-(very very mini) game to stimulate your thinking about games, learning and interaction. This is an explorative session, meant to stimulate questions, not provide answers.
Prepare for this by signing up to www.secondlife.com Create your avatar (your online persona – male, female, animal, vegetable, mineral – anything goes!) and explore for yourself over the next few weeks.
Alternatively just turn up and we will pair you with someone who knows.
Or sit back and watch it on screen and reflect what it all means.
Bring your mobiles and learn how to use bluetooth communication between each other – (FREE SMS and data transfer!!!!) To start the game rolling.
