We are all familiar with the significant difference between giving rice to those in the third world versus giving those in the third world the tools and knowledge to grow their own crops. One feeds a family for a limited amount of time the other feeds a family, a community and beyond now and limitlessly into the future. Once empowered individuals and communities act differently – strategically based on what are the best decisions for them in their environment to protect and enhance their future and the future of their families and communities – maybe its growing coffee, maybe its growing tea.
